ST. GEORGE, Utah – Police in southern Utah are looking for a man wanted out of California for a parole violation.

St. George Police and Fire responded to the Port of Entry at the Utah-Arizona border on reports of a vehicle on fire.

Deputies identified the driver of that vehicle as Christian Barroso, who is wanted out of California for a parole violation. They believe that Barroso set fire to his vehicle then fled the scene.

St. George police say the remains of a high-capacity magazine and rifle were located in the vehicle, as well as ammunition for a handgun, but no handgun.

Officers spent several hours searching on ground and in air for Barroso without success. They say he has no known ties to the community but could still be in the area.

“The chase was on I-15. He was not really in our community but passing through so we don’t believe he has ties here. However we don’t know that but we do want to make people aware that he is out there and we haven’t apprehended him at this point,” said St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain.

Barroso is described as 5-foot-7-inches tall, around 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

He should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees a person with that description should not approach him and contact police immediately.
