SALT LAKE CITY - Harmon's is pulling tobacco from its shelves in an effort to promote healthy lifestyles.

Harmon's, Utah's oldest and largest family-owned grocery store, took all tobacco products from store shelves a few months ago.

"Tobacco is such an addictive product that this was an easy choice for us to make actually," said Bob Harmon, vice president of Harmon's.

On Friday morning, Harmon's was recognized for its efforts to help smokers quit the habit.

"For a business to take the extraordinary step and lead out by removing tobacco products and choosing not to sell them is extraordinary. We wanted to recognize their commitment to Utah families and children," said Dr. Kevin Nelson, chair of the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Utah.

Bob Harmon says selling a product that his harmful to customers goes against the overall goal ad responsibility of a local grocer, which is to promote wellness and provide healthy options for the community.
