EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah -- The State Auditor’s Office is looking into utility billing and accounting practices in Eagle Mountain after residents complained about high bills.

Citizens in Eagle Mountain have been upset since they saw a spike in their utility bills earlier in the year, and some were angry to learn utility funds are transferred to the city's general fund. They protested outside city hall and few days later even more residents came to a city hall meeting to express their frustration.

Eagle Mountain residents aren’t the only ones eager to see an audit done. Ifo Pili, city administrator, said he is glad the audit is coming.

“We were hoping that they would perform the audit sooner than later," he said. "We want it just as much as anyone else, so we can put all of this to rest and move forward."

Utah State Auditor John Dougall said an audit will take time to complete, but he said his office takes citizen complaints seriously.  In the meantime, he encouraged citizens to become active in the city’s budget process.
