CEDAR CITY, Utah — A 20-year-old man who allegedly shot several times at a car before leading police on a high-speed chase is in custody.

It happened Wednesday in downtown Cedar City, near the Southern Utah University campus.

Police identified the suspect as Nicholas Scott Anthony.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., police heard multiple gunshots near Center and Main Streets. Officers said they saw a car speeding away from the scene and chased the vehicle with patrol cars and a helicopter.

Anthony smashed into a parked car and police took him into custody. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, but no one else was hurt.

Police said the man expressed suicidal thoughts. Police said the victims appear to have been chosen at random.

Anthony was booked into jail on two counts of attempted homicide, DUI, consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, discharging firearms from a vehicle, reckless endangerment, failure to stop, and several other minor traffic offenses.
