Inmates at an Arizona jail will soon be paying for their meals: a dollar a day.

The sheriff of Maricopa County says the rising cost of food and the decline in donations are to blame for the new meal change.

MCSO has the third largest jail system in the country and will be the first to make this sort of move.

The Sheriff says anyone who can’t afford a meal will still be fed.
