RIVERDALE – Construction crews found a woman dead at a home renovation site Wednesday morning, and police believe she died after spending the night in freezing temperatures.

The woman was discovered by the owner of the four-plex under construction at 1700 west and 4800 south. Kirt Nalder said it was clear right away the woman was deceased.

“I was sitting in my truck and realized there was something, some purple sitting on the side that didn’t look right,” said Nalder. “After looking at it for another second, I realized it was a person.”

The 46-year-old woman was originally found without any identification. Through news reports, a neighbor helped police identify the woman.

“This is an unknown death, so we’ll investigate it as suspicious and follow up on all the leads,” says said Lt. James Ebert, Riverdale Police. “We have been able to find out where she was staying, what her name was.”

Police saod the woman lived not far from where she was found. They estimate she’d been in the snow for between four and seven hours before Nalder found her.

“There was nothing at the scene that indicated there was any type of foul play or that this was anything besides an exposure case,” Ebert said.

Ebert said neighbors who saw the woman the night before indicated she may have been intoxicated.
