SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City Police have a suspect in custody in connection with an alleged attempted kidnapping that took place Tuesday afternoon.

Sgt. Shawn Josephson, Salt Lake City Police, said the alleged victim was a 15-year-old girl who was walking north on 600 West at around 1 p.m.  when she passed the suspect, who was moving in the opposite direction.

The suspect reportedly turned to follow the victim, and the victim moved onto Centro Civico Mexicano property, which is a non-profit Hispanic center located at 155 South and 600 West.

Josephson said the suspect grabbed the victim’s arm, but she pulled away and moved toward the building. The suspect reportedly followed her until she entered the building, at which point he fled.

Sgt. Josephson said they believe the man they have in custody is the suspect the victim described, but he is still being questioned. His name has not been released, as no official charges have been filed.

The suspect has been described as an 18-20-year-old light-skinned Hispanic male between 5-feet-8 and 5-feet-10 inches tall. He has short, dark hair and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue pants.
