HELPER, Utah – The mayor of Helper in Carbon County resigned from office on Saturday morning after he was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence on Friday night.
The resignation took place at a special executive session of the Helper City Council.
Officials with the Utah Highway Patrol say Mayor Dean Armstrong was involved in a small crash in Helper at around 3:20 p.m. They say he failed to pass a breath test and refused to take a field sobriety test, telling the trooper he would be unable to pass it.
Armstrong was arrested and booked into the Carbon County Jail. Court records show two previous DUI convictions for Armstrong, one in 2012 and one in 1991.
