PARK CITY, Utah - Park City Mountain Resort has a new member of their search and rescue team.

Nine-week-old Lily has only been on the job for a couple of weeks, but her handlers say she'll soon be an asset on their avalanche search team.

Before she heads out into the mountains with the search teams, the puppy must first learn customer service and obedience.

"Just socialization, and getting used to being on the mountain and basic obedience. It won't be until next year that we do a little more training directed toward avalanche search and rescue. And hopefully by this time next year she'll be a full-fled avalanche rescue dog," said Sierra Prothers, Lily's handler.

Rescue dogs start their training young and typically serve with search and rescue crews for around ten years.
