SALT LAKE CITY - The students at the Madeleine Choir School are getting the opportunity to perform around the world.

Every year, students get a chance to perform in historical locations around the world, usually in Europe.

"I've been on the tour before, the Italy tour, and it was a lot of fun. You're always around you friends, you get to sing a bunch of songs you've been working on for months and it just a great experience all in all," said seventh grader Keenan Lins.

Choir director Melanie Malinka says that the students prefer taking the tour of Italy, which happens ever four years. They'll go to other places in the meantime.

"We go to Italy every four years. So every fifth or eighth grader can have a chance to go to Rome and sing over there. And then on they years in between, we go somewhere in Europe usually," Malinka said.

This year, they're headed to Germany to sing where composers like Bach once performed. The students will get to visit cathedrals in places like Vienna, Berlin and Prague.

"These are some of our pieces that we perform all throughout the season in our services. Some very popular ones. Some pieces that people wouldn't recognize necessarily and some of our personal favorites that we want to share with the audience," Malinka said.

For some of the students, this is their first time outside the United States, but they're prepared to take on the cultural differences.

"Some of the kids have been taking German classes to get ready a little bit more so maybe they can ask, 'Do you have milk,' or, 'Where can I find the restroom,' and hopefully they will help the other students," Malinka said.

The students leave this Friday. They'll tour Germany for ten days.
