DRAPER, Utah -- One man is recovering Tuesday morning after being rescued on Lone Peak Mountain.
Two brothers were snowshoeing in Corner Canyon near Draper Monday night when one of them slipped and fell. His foot got stuck in part of a small tree and he possibly broke his ankle. According to rescuers, the man couldn't take off his shoe because of the swelling.
The man's brother called police around 10 p.m. Monday.
Police said the rough terrain, combined with the man's condition made a rescue on foot extremely difficult.
"He didn't take his boot off cuz he was afraid it'd swell up and he'd never get it back on probably a good thing that far up they're probably, approximately two miles up on top and actually over the ridge a little bit," said Lt. John Barker Newmorn, Unified Police Department.
Officers reached the man after midnight and used a helicopter to get him to safety.
Police said the brothers were lucky to have cellphone service and were able to communicate with rescuers throughout the process.
