MURRAY, Utah -- Young, aspiring chefs with special needs learned a lesson in cooking like a pro on Saturday thanks to a catering business in Murray.

Maxine Turner owns Cuisine Unlimited, a professional catering business, and she said she is happy to have the opportunity to teach the kids at Camp Kostopulos, which is a camp for young people with special needs.

“This is an amazing group of young people, and we’re just thrilled to be involved with them,” she said.

Turner said she hopes these lessons will help the children now as well as in the future.

“We really try to teach a lot of good nutrition and sound baking, so that they can incorporate this into their adult lives and live more independently,” she said. “It gives them great motor coordination skills. We make them measure on other nights they will have to measure things and cut, so they really know how to operate within a kitchen in their own homes.”

Turner said the best part of it all for her is seeing the kids enjoying themselves.

“I have to say I probably get as much, if not more, out of this than the kids,” she said. “It`s very gratifying, and they walk in here just beaming because they love being here.”
