SPRINGDALE, Utah — The police chief and town manager have been booked into jail after being charged with felonies accusing them of not turning over cash bails collected from foreign tourists in traffic stops.

Officials at the Kane County Jail confirmed to FOX 13 on Tuesday that Springdale Police Chief Kurt Wright was booked and released. Purgatory Jail records showed that Springdale Town Manager Rick Wixom was booked and released after posting $5,000 bail.

As FOX 13 first reported on Monday, both men are charged with failure to keep and pay over public monies, a third-degree felony. No court dates have been scheduled yet.

The Springdale Town Council said that it fully supports Wixom and Wright, and both men would remain on the job with full pay and benefits pending the outcome of the case.
