SALT LAKE CITY - Two people are dead after a suspected murder-suicide on Interstate 80 on Friday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers say witnesses reported what appeared to be a crashed Toyota SUV on the right side of eastbound I-80 near the off-ramp to Redwood Road at around 9:30 a.m.

"Someone saw the vehicle kind of drift off the road and it was reported to us through our dispatch," said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Steve Winward.

When they arrived, troopers say they found the two occupants slumped over in the front seats of the vehicle with gunshot wounds to the head.

Investigators say it looks like a murder-suicide where the male passenger shot the female driver before shooting himself.

Police aren't sure what led to the shooting, but the couple may have been involved in prior issues of domestic violence.

"It's not very often that you see something like this occur," Winward said.

The man has been identified as 37-year-old Felipe Rodriguez and the woman as 32-year-old Iris Rodriguez.
