SANDY, Utah - Some Utah students had a school lunch taste test on Friday to decide which foods will be offered in fifteen Utah school districts next year.
UCARE, a food purchasing co-op made of fifteen Utah school districts, sponsored the food fair for 160 Utah students on Friday.
"We invite students from fifteen different districts in Utah to come and tell us their opinions on the products because ultimately, they are the ones who will eat them, so they have a big decision to make today and just have a big say on what's on the menu next year," said Sebasthian Baras, Canyons School District Nutrition Services.
UCARE focused on nutrition, flavor and appearance when choosing their foods, and students got to try things like whole grain products, fruits, vegetables and proteins, then vote on which were best.
"It's cool because I get to choose lunches that a lot of my friends get to eat and other people and me, too," said student Logan Shobe.
Students' votes will be tallied and their input will help shape the menus for elementary schools next year.
