COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah — A Cottonwood Heights man who police said was stabbed multiple times by his brother on Sunday is in critical condition.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a stabbing at a home near 2600 East, Creek Road around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Sgt. Gary Young of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department said the 21-year-old victim was stabbed by his 16-year-old brother five or six times during an argument.

He said there had been a family celebration involving alcohol, but he doesn’t know whether either of the brothers had been drinking. The two stayed up after everyone else had gone to sleep. The details of the dispute remain unknown for now.

“We’re still investigating on what the nature of the argument was, why it happened, how come it led from just an argument to an aggravated assault,” Young said. “And the younger brother, the 16-year-old, will be facing some serious charges in court.”

The 16-year-old brother was booked into juvenile detention on charges of aggravated assault. His older brother is critical condition, but he is expected to recover.
