SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- South Salt Lake police are asking for the public's help in identifying a person of interest in an attempted sexual assault case.

The victim is a 19-year-old woman who was attending a going-away party at a Salt Lake City home on the night of January 2. Police said the victim recalled drinking a glass of water before her memory began to fade.

At about 1 a.m. on January 3, the woman realized she was lying next to a large tree near a church in the area of 1600 W 2640 S in West Valley City. She was able to call a friend to pick her up.

The victim had her keys but did not know where her car was or how she'd arrived at the church. Police say she suffered only minor injuries.

The woman's car was not where she left it and the incident was reported to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

A friend called the victim 10 days later and asked her why her car was parked at a Maverik store at 3260 S West Temple in South Salt Lake. Police said the car was covered with snow and had been parked there since the night of the party.

Surveillance images from the Maverik store show a man putting the victim into his vehicle, then driving northbound on West Temple.

The man in the images was described as 30-40 years old, with possibly a mustache or goatee, short shaved hair and a large build.

He was wearing a yellow ball cap, a flannel jacket with blue, green and white colors and a dark hood, blue jeans and brown work boots. He was driving a late model maroon Ford Expedition with chrome wheels and chrome body trim.

Anyone who can identify the man is asked to call the South Salt Lake Police dispatch line at (801) 840-4000.
