PARK CITY, Utah — A New Jersey man died after a ski accident in Park City, according to the Park City Police Department.

Police said William Kivet, 67, was skiing inbounds at Park City Mountain Resort when he left a groomed trail to ski in the trees. He collided with a tree.

“He was inbounds. It doesn’t appear he was skiing out of control of lost control. He skied and collided with one of them,” said Park City Police Capt. Rick Ryan.

Ski patrol transported the victim to base patrol, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Kivet’s friend told police he doesn’t know why Kivet veered off into an expert run without a helmet.

Police say they don’t know how Kivet died, whether it was the accident or if he’d had a medical condition. They’re waiting on autopsy results for more answers.
