OGDEN -- An elementary school teacher has been arrested, accused of child sex abuse.

Weber County Sheriff's deputies said Monday they arrested Scott Ray McMurray, 58, on suspicion of 11 counts of forcible sex abuse and one count of sodomy on a child.

The Ogden School District confirmed that McMurray was a teacher at Heritage Elementary School. Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther told FOX 13 that McMurray was arrested after authorities received information alleging sexual abuse involving three children. The alleged abuse did not involve students where McMurray taught, Lowther said.

Authorities did not know if there were more alleged victims.

"We're still doing our investigation, we're still doing interviews," he said.

Some of the alleged abuse took place last year, Lowther said, and other instances took place years ago.

McMurray remained in the Weber County Jail on Monday afternoon and was scheduled to appear before a judge in Ogden's 2nd District Court on Tuesday.

On Monday, Ogden School District spokeswoman Donna Corby read a brief statement about the arrest to FOX 13:

"The Ogden School District became aware of the allegations and immediate action was taken. He has been employed by the Ogden School District for six years and was a 6th grade teacher at Heritage Elementary School. He is currently on administrative leave."

The Weber County Sheriff's Office said anyone with information on the case is urged to contact detectives at 801-778-6600.
