MAGNA, Utah — A fire caused damage to the outside of a home in Magna Monday morning.

It started around 2 a.m. near 3100 South and 79th West.

Firefighters said smoke was seen in the home and flames were in the back of the house under an attached awning.

It only took about 15 minutes to knock the fire down, but an ATV hampered their progress.

“We’re not even sure that the ATV was a point of origin, other than it was just an additional fuel source and that helped the fire get going very rapidly and got into the awning and the siding of the home,” said Capt. Clint Mecham, Unified Fire Authority.

The family was home at the time of the fire, but they got out quickly and no one was hurt.

Investigators are determining the cause of the fire and the cost of damages.
