SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Dept. of Alcoholic Beverage Control is cracking  down on restaurants accused of breaking Utah’s liquor laws.

The DABC says an increasing number of establishments are serving alcohol without food, which is against the law.

But Sen. John Valentine, R-Utah County, says that’s why they increased funds for liquor officers. The Utah Bureau of Criminal Investigation now has four new officers who patrol restaurants suspected of violating Utah’s liquor laws.

Valentine says the most recent violations include minors being served alcohol in restaurants and restaurants serving alcohol without food.

“You can’t get an alcoholic drink unless it’s connected with food and that’s what the statute has said for a long time, predating my time in the legislature,” Valentine said.
