MAGNA, Utah - A project in Salt Lake County is underway to build a  more livable community and make sure unincorporated areas get the perks cities have.

Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon says a new grant for the Magna Livable Streets Project will improve the east side of Main Street to look more like the already-improved west side.

"With this new grant money Salt Lake County will put in more sidewalks, we'll put in more lighting, we'll make it safer for pedestrians and bicyclists, and really just create more of a Main Street feel for Magna Main Street," Corroon said.

Salt Lake County started the project seven years ago and residents are saying they're already seeing a huge improvement.

"They've improved it a lot from how it used to be out here. Actually looks antique, rustic, small town," said Clifton Anderson.

The county is still looking for a contractor but hopes to start construction in the fall of next year.
