COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah – Police are investigating a case of extortion after they say a man was blackmailed for credit card information while on a pornographic website.

Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Gary Young says a man in his 20s was on a pornographic website and engaging in pornographic activity when he received an instant message from the website threatening him.

The alleged blackmailers said they would send footage to family unless he gave his credit card information to sign up for pornographic websites.

“He was told the video was recorded and they had his Facebook page and knew his family and friends and were going to send that video to them unless he signed up for a bunch of adult website at cost on his credit card,” said Cottonwood Heights Sgt. Dan Bartlett.

Police say the man signed up for websites until his credit card was maxed out.
