LOGAN, Utah – Utah State University football head coach Gary Andersen will be staying with the Aggies.

Anndersen announced on Friday that he will be staying in Logan. In October, USU athletic director Scott Barnes announced a contract extension for Andersen that would keep him through the 2018 season. The revised contract also calls for salary increases for all of Andersen’s assistant coaches.

“I plan to remain the head football coach at Utah State University,” Andersen said in a statement released on Friday. “The interest I have received is a compliment to the quality young men in this program. Their hard work and dedication has built a culture that will enable us to continue to be successful at a very high level moving forward. I love Cache Valley, this university and these young men, and I am humbled and excited to continue to be the coach here.”

Andersen led Utah State to a record-breaking season with a 10-2 record, 6-0 in the WAC, and their first outright conference title since 1936. The Aggies are nationally ranked this week, with a 20 spot in the AP poll and at 22nd in the Coaches’ Poll.

The Aggies will finish their historic season at the 2012 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2:30 p.m. against a Mid-American Conference team that has not yet been announced. They join the Mountain West Conference next July.
