SANDY, Utah -- The Festival of Trees opened to the public Wednesday morning.

The event features more than 700 decorated Christmas trees and will benefit Primary Children's Medical Center.

The hall, trees and other materials have been donated to the event. Since 1971, the event has raised over $30.8 million including nearly $1.66 million raised in 2011.

Money is raised through event ticket sales and the auction of the trees on Tuesday night.

"We have great support from the community. [For] a lot of people, it's the way to start the holiday season and what a better way than to giving back to children," said Shauna Kerr, chairwoman of Festival of Trees.

The Festival of Trees is being held at the South Towne Expo Center through Saturday, December 1. It is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
