Investigator said alcohol may have been a factor in a crash on Legacy Highway that left three people in critical condition Thursday.

It happened near mile post nine near Centerville at approximately 4:30 a.m.

According to Davis County Sheriff's Office, a white truck was driving the wrong way on the highway. It crashed head on with a SUV and rolled.

Two men in the truck and a woman driving the SUV were taken by helicopter to the hospital, all in critical condition.

Troopers were already aware of the truck driving north in southbound lanes and there were trying to intercept the vehicle before the crash occurred.

Officers said they could smell alcohol on the driver when they arrived at the scene.

Utah Highway Patrol said most of the accidents that occur at this time of the year will be alcohol related.

"This is actually one of the worse holidays for that and it is the same mantra we have every year, every holiday. 'Do not speed, wearing your seat belt and please, please do not drink and drive,'" said Lt. Ed Michaud, Utah Highway Patrol.

Legacy Highway was closed for a few hours while officials cleared the roadway, but was open by 7 a.m.
