Mediation between Hostess brands and the bakers union failed Tuesday, forcing the company to announce plans to move forward with closing down and selling its assets.

The shutdown means 580 employees at the Hostess facility in Ogden will lose their jobs. Teamsters Local 222 and Utah's Department of Workforce Services are working to provide training and job placement assistance for those affected.

"All of our employment centers are open to the Hostess employees. We have workshops in these centers to help them with getting their resume ready and networking and job search strategies. And so we really encourage all Hostess employees to come in to our office so we can assist you and get you back to work as soon as possible, said Sara Stoffers, Department of Workforce Services.

Teamsters held a union meeting Tuesday to help provide additional resources.

"Part of our job is to make sure we get information [and] everything that we can possibly get to them," said Rusty Hart, Secretary Treasurer, Teamsters Union Local 222. "That's why we set up this meeting as fast as we could set it up, just so they could start to do the things they need to do to take care of their families."

The union will set up food banks for former employees of Hostess and will also organize a "Sub for Santa" for them and their families.
