SALT LAKE CITY - Twelve members of Utah's Air National Guard arrived home from Afghanistan Friday, just in time for Thanksgiving.

The 130th Engineering Installation Squadron returned from serving seven months in Afghanistan. They worked to build the backbone of a communications system and call themselves "the Wizards."

"We actually had a chance at one point in time to be outside with the local nationals, Afghans themselves, and that really brought things into perspective, with seeing the children running around and coming up and saying hi, while getting to see what we are doing in helping over there as well," said Technical Sgt. Brian Nichols.

Friends and family gathered at Salt Lake City International Airport to welcome the 12 men home.

A 6-year-old girl told FOX 13 she was planning to take her dad out for ice cream upon his return.

"Once you get home, it does make it you appreciate what you have, especially your family and your loved ones," said a returning airman.
