More ski resorts are opening for the season and Ski Utah is forecasting a successful year.
It appears to be off to a good start as the resorts in Cottonwood Canyons will all open by the end of this week. They received approximately 50 inches of snow in last weekend's storm.
"Two days before we were up in the office, some of us had sandals and shorts on still. It was 70 degrees. And then it came and we were thrilled, 51-inch storm total for us and it really was the enabler for us to ensure that [Friday's opening] is going to happen," said Connie Marshall, Alta Resort.
After a dismal season last year, skiers, boarders, and resort employees are hopeful this year will be better than ever.
"A lot of our destination skiers, people who came from outside of state, had a great time," said Nathan Rafferty, Ski Utah President. "The resorts bent over backward, made a ton of snow, put out a great product and at the end of the day, our skier day numbers were down about 10 percent, which was better than you might think."
Rafferty said they are excited to get back to an average snowfall year.
