West Valley City Police are investigating an armed robbery that may have involved a teen and his mother.

It happened at the Smoke-4-Less store at 3300 South and 5600 West.

Police say a woman and boy entered the store around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon and waited for people to leave.

They say the boy handed the clerk a threatening note, asking for cash. Police say the woman then pulled out a handgun.

The clerk gave them an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspects left in a white SUV.

The suspects’ descriptions are vague, but police say it may have been a mother in her 30’s with her son.

“Really, the thing that stands out to me is the mother-son thing. He did call her mom at some point during the robbery, so whether that’s true or not remains to be seen,” said West Valley Police Lt. Michael Coleman.

Police do not have much to go on until they examine the surveillance video, but they say the suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts, coats and jeans.
