PROVO, Utah – Two Brigham Young University football players have been suspended from the team and have withdrawn from school, according to a statement released on Thursday.

Senior defensive back Joe Sampson and sophomore linebacker Zac Stout were both suspended from the team for violation of team rules, but the specific violation was not listed. Both players have withdrawn from school and will not return this season.

Provo police have confirmed to FOX 13 that there was a fight involving BYU football players at Mi Ranchito restaurant on Halloween night, though they haven’t identified who those players are. Police say they’re still investigating the incident.

Sampson started in eight of nine games this year at free safety and had 33 tackles to give him 56 career stops in his two seasons at BYU.

Stout appeared in one game as an inside linebacker in 2012 with one tackle. He made 21 tackles in 10 games as a true freshman in 2010 before missing the 2011 season due to injury.

The Cougars are 5-4 on the season. They’ll fight for their chance to be bowl eligible this Saturday as they host the Idaho Vandals in Provo at 8:15 p.m. Utah time. The game will air on ESPN U.
