SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's two major newspapers showed very different poll results in the close race for Salt Lake County Mayor this weekend.

The Deseret News and Dan Jones Polling have Democrat Ben McAdams up by 4 points over Republican Mark Crockett. But the Salt Lake Tribune and Mason-Dixon Polling and Research have Crockett up by 10 points over McAdams.

McAdams favors the Dan Jones poll, saying the pollsters know more about the community.

"Well I hope they take one of these papers and throw it in the garbage. But look, you've got to look at the methodology behind the poll. We're going to trust Dan Jones. He knows this community. He's polled in Utah for years, and his polls are high quality," McAdams said.

Crockett favors averaging the two polls, which keeps him in the lead.

"I find it very encouraging that when you average these two polls out - which is probably the right thing to do - we're still a few points ahead, but it's too close to call. It's going to be a close race," Crockett said.

The Salt Lake Tribune's other major poll result this week had Republican Mia Love far ahead of her Democratic opponent for the 4th Congressional District Jim Matheson.
