SALT LAKE CITY – Thousands of teenage girls spent their Saturday in school as part of the 12th annual Northern Utah Expanding Your Horizons conference.

Girls spent the day learning about technical careers in math and science. The conference, which is sponsored by the ATK Aerospace group, aims at encouraging young girls to pursue a career in fields dominated by men.

“I want to go into a math or science field, so I want to see all the different fields I can go into and kind of explore the things that I can do,” said 13-year-old Emily Harames.

The conference was held at South Ogden Jr. High. It offered 28 different workshops for girls between 11 and 15 years old.
