OGDEN, Utah – Girl Scouts spent a night out in the cold as a way to help raise awareness for the homeless.

Hundreds of Girl Scouts experienced homelessness first-hand Friday night by sleeping in cardboard boxes in Ogden.

“It’s kind of like learning about what the homeless people have to go through and how hard it is for them to do it, and I have to say it’s pretty hard, I’m pretty cold,” said Abigail Cavender, a Girl Scout.

The weather was a bit warmer this year than last year’s event, when snow caused some of the girls’ boxes to collapse, making them appreciate their warm beds even more.

The Girl Scouts collected donations like warm jackets, blankets and canned food as part of the event.
