MAGNA — Unified Police officers responded to reports of shots fired at a park in Magna and calls indicating alleged threats at an apartment complex Friday night.

Police found juveniles playing with airsoft guns when they arrived on scene near the Elk Run apartments at 3600 South and 8600 West around 6 p.m. They also say witnesses describe an older male at the apartment complex threatening a young boy with an airsoft gun.

“We believe that we had an active shooter situation,” said UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal. “And that is definitely the right thing to do. We would just warn, kids, teens, when playing with airsoft guns, be cautious with the area you’re playing at. Because people perceive them are real guns.”

Officers from multiple agencies responded.

Police did not have much information regarding the alleged threat at the apartment complex. They are still investigating, looking for witnesses or a potential victim.

UPD does not feel that there was a severe threat to residents in the area.
