Hurricane Sandy is bearing down on the East Coast and millions of people in the path of the storm could be impacted.

Volunteers in Utah are already gearing up to do their part to help.

Vern Gillmore, a Red Cross volunteer, will be traveling to Albany, N.Y. to help victims of the storm.

"I do it because of that experience, that feeling that I get at the conclusion of a disaster, and that is you're really helping people," Gillmore said.

Power outages are expected to last several days after the storm.

Gillmore is expected to stay on this mission for three weeks. The Red Cross said there is a good chance more volunteers will be deployed.

The Red Cross is also accepting monetary donations as well as blood donations.
