WASHINGTON CITY, Utah — Police say their officers were shot at during a chase Friday afternoon.

Washington City Police say the chase ended at 3000 East and 1580 South where the suspect, identified as Jamon Cranney, 36, of Washington City, was arrested.

Police say that at about 3:20 p.m. an officer tried to stop Cranney for a traffic violation. Cranney fled the scene and headed south on Washington Fields Road (300 East).

The officer decided not to pursue the vehicle into residential areas. The officer put out an “Attempt to Locate” for the wanted vehicle and driver through the dispatch center.

A short time later the vehicle was spotted by Washington City officers while patrolling near 3650 South Washington Fields Road. Police again attempted to stop the vehicle at which time Cranney fired several shots at the officers.

Police returned fire, striking Cranney.
