Cottonwood High coach Josh Lyman resigned on Wednesday amid allegations that he had inappropriate contact with a female student.

The following is the complete statement given by Granite School District: “As of late this morning, Wednesday, May 30th, 2012, the Granite School District received a brief letter from Mr. Josh Lyman tendering his resignation as Head Football Coach and Teacher at Cottonwood High School. We have accepted that resignation. His resignation effectively ends our ongoing investigation into the allegations against Mr. Lyman as he is no longer our employee.”

Lyman, 32, was placed on paid administrative leave in April after the accusation.

Lyman was hired as Cottonwood High’s football coach two years ago. His attorney said Lyman and the student knew each other from school and may have had contact outside the school, but it was not social. The attorney insisted his client did nothing criminally wrong.
