A potential bomb threat was discovered at the National Security Agency’s new Utah Data Center near Bluffdale Monday morning, forcing workers to evacuate.

The evacuation occurred at 11:30 a.m. Local and federal law enforcement agencies were notified of the potential threat, and FBI agents were at the scene Monday afternoon to investigate.

“We don’t take any chances with safety,” said the Sacramento District’s security chief, Jonathan Payton. “We’re working closely with our law enforcement partners to aid their investigation in whatever way we can, and are ready to get back to work as soon as we get the all clear.”

Bluffdale police set up security around the perimeter of the facility as NSA workers took bomb sniffing dogs throughout the site.

The evacuation was a precaution, and agents said it was unlikely anything would be found.
