IRON COUNTY – Police in Iron County are reminding residents to watch out for a man suspected in a series of home burglaries in southern Utah.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office has released a new poster warning residents about Troy James Knapp, who they say allegedly stole items from a number of cabins in the Cedar Mountain area.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office is working with officials from Kane, Washington and Garfield Counties as well as the US Marshals to apprehend Knapp, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Police say Knapp is skilled in living outdoors and is knowledgeable of the area. He is known to frequent the Mammoth Creek, Sky Haven and North Fork areas, as well as the Cedar Canyon area.

Knapp travels on foot and is often seen wearing camouflage clothing and carries a backpack and firearm.

He was last seen with red hair and a goatee and has numerous tattoos, including on his neck and the back of his left hand. He is 44 years old, about 5-foot, 11-inches tall, about 160 pounds with blue eyes.

If residents suspect their home has been broken into, they are asked to immediately contact the Iron County Sheriff’s Office at 435-867-7500. If they believe someone is in their home, do not enter the cabin and call 911. If they see someone leaving a cabin, call 911, do not approach the person or make contact with him and note a description and his direction of travel.

Anyone with information about Knapp or his location is asked to contact the Iron County Sheriff’s Office at 435-867-7500.
