PROVO CANYON – Provo Canyon was closed Sunday after a fatal crash near Deer Creek.

Officials with the Utah Dept. of Public Safety say the crash occurred at about 2 p.m. near mile post 22.

Police say an Altima traveling northbound veered into the southbound lanes of SR-189, hitting a southbound Subaru head-on.

63-year-old Kathleen Draper of Heber, who was driving the Nissan Altima, was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Val Draper, 63, also from Heber, was also transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 2-year-old girl died on May 7.  She was a passenger in the Altima and had been flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center with a 12-year-old female after the accident.

An adult female passenger in the Subaru, who was 25 weeks pregnant, was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital. The unborn child died as a result of the accident.

The adult male driver and 3-year-old passenger of the Subaru sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Drugs, alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
