General Michael Liechty, Utah National Guard, spoke with Good Day Utah about the role of the National Guard in Tuesday's Great Utah ShakeOut drill.

"We are mainly there to set up, be ready to operate, test all of our communications systems, be able to communicate with civil authorities," said General Liechty.  "This is one of our big goals out of this is to make sure we can communicate with civil authorities.  We know we can talk back and forth on military channels, but it always seems there is a problem when you start trying to cross communications systems, so we really hope we can work through that."

The ShakeOut is a program designed to make sure people along the Wasatch Front are prepared if a big earthquake were to hit.
