Two elementary schools in Provo were placed on lockdown Thursday due to a nearby police pursuit.

Amelia Earhart Elementary School and Sunset View Elementary School were both placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure due to the police activity nearby. There were no incidents at either school and the lockdowns were lifted around 12:15 p.m.

Police say they stopped a vehicle at 700 S Stubbs Ave. and it went into reverse, striking the police vehicle. The suspect then drove away and police gave chase. A male passenger jumped out of the vehicle and two other people stayed in the car.

The pursuit continued toward the Provo Airport and the suspect vehicle came to a stop at the Airport Dike Road trailhead. The male driver jumped out of the car and fled the scene on foot. The driver allegedly tried to kick down the door of a nearby residence but failed and continued to run. Police apprehended him and a female passenger who had remained in the car.

Police dogs were deployed in an effort to locate the first man who jumped out of the vehicle during the pursuit. The suspect, 30-year-old Julian Gutierrez, was spotted walking near 2500 West Center Street and was taken into custody.
