DRAPER -- Fortune 500 company EMC Corp. celebrated its new technical support center in Draper Wednesday.

The company reinforced its promise to create 500 jobs in Utah by the year 2015. In turn, the company got tax incentives from the state. The company's president spoke to event attendees.

“By locating our newest customer support center here in Draper City, EMC is demonstrating not only our commitment to world-class customer support, but also creating good jobs and strong career opportunities here in the United States.” said company president and COO Howard Elias.

EMC provides computer storage hardware and software for clients. Elias says he is also excited about working with colleges across the nation.

“To this end, our academic alliance works with more than 750 colleges and universities worldwide, including here in Utah, to prepare students for information technology based professional roles that didn’t even exist,” said Elias.

Elias touted their cloud computing operation as a nod to the future of information technology.

“Cloud computing makes companies more operationally efficient, agile and responsive to business needs by creating shared pools of IT infrastructure available to host applications and process information anywhere and in real time,” Elias said.

Governor Gary Herbert attended EMC’s grand opening.
