The opening of the downtown Salt Lake City’s City Creek Center is less than 40 days away. A new Harmon’s grocery store, part of the center, is scheduled to open next week.

After four years of planning, the store will be opening next Wednesday with plenty of festivities starting at 9 a.m.

“We have some great festivities going on. We’re so excited to show off our store; we’ve had associates working here over a month now getting ready for it,” said Randy Harmon.

Linda Wardell with the City Creek Center says the new Harmon’s is in-line with their vision for the center.

“You know you come in there’s great seating, there’s a great feeling. Everything that is fantastic about Utah is represented in this store and so the lifestyle here will absolutely be reflected at City Creek Center,” said Wardell.

The store was built underneath two levels of parking, but special tension cables will keep things safe.

“There’s actual cable going through. It’s a tension slab cable just like they build bridges, so they tighten it to the right amount of tension because on top is a parking level and above that is another parking level,” said Harmon.

Justin Mathis with the Downtown Alliance says the store is a great addition for downtown Salt Lake City.
